Feng Shui Master Daniel Ong shares what you need to do during Winter Solstice Festival for prosperity and good health
Winter Solstice Festival (Dong Zhi) is an important day in Chinese astrology. In Yi Jing (易经), it is symbolized by Di Lei Fu Gua (地雷復) with only one yang yao appearing at the first yao position whereas the remaining 5 yao are still in ying.
It is time when yang energy begins to rise.
7 is an important number in Yi Jing. It represents change after 7 days (七日來復).
To retain and grow this yang energy for prosperity and good health in the coming new year, it is advisable to observe the following abstainments for the next 7 days:
1. Consume only hot or warm foods.
2. Strictly no cold food or drinks.
3. On the day of Dong Zhi, eat glutinous rice balls (汤圆) or dumplings (餃子) dumplings when it is hot to activate the new yang energy in the body. In customary, it symbolizes completeness and fulfillment (圆圆满满).
4. Strictly no sexual intimacy during this period to prevent the new yang energy from leaking out of our bodies. It applies to both males and females.
5. Absolutely good time to meditate for growing this new yang energy.
6. Sleep early, ideally before 11 p.m. to allow the body and internal organs (五脏六腑) to rest and rejuvenate.
7. Important and auspicious period to offer prayer and give offerings to ancestors.
Go grab your glutinous rice balls in the supermarkets before they run out of stock for today.
